Your photographer should be one of the first services you book in a standard 12-month wedding planning timeline after your venue. Popular wedding dates are often booked 9 to 18 months in advance by many professional Vancouver wedding photographers.
During each wedding season, there are a few weekends that are extremely jam-packed with weddings. It's not unusual for a Vancouver wedding photographer to shoot three weddings on a single weekend. (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) These wedding weekends, as well as any one-of-a-kind dates that fall on a weekend, like 08/08 and 10/10, will begin to fill up closer to 18 months in advance.
If you're planning a wedding during the peak season in Vancouver, between June and September, you should book your wedding photography at least 12 months in advance. If your wedding is on a Friday or Sunday, waiting until 9 months before the big day to book your photographer is a very reasonable choice. However, if it is peak season in your location, we would not recommend waiting much longer. The average cost of wedding photography is $3800 for 8 hours of coverage, with around half of wedding photographers including an engagement photography session and pre-wedding photos in that price.
During the summer, most Vancouver and Vancouver Island wedding photographers have a minimum of 6 or 8 hours of coverage (May-October). Most couples request ten hours of coverage for their big day, which allows the photographer to capture a portion of the couple getting ready in the morning as well as the first dance in the evening. Weddings with various cultural traditions (Chinese, Indian wedding photography) or long travel times (destination wedding photography) will almost always require 12 hours of coverage. While there are rare exceptions, coverage is usually consecutive hours.
